Grant recipients of awards from the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation (PACF) gathered at the Ravenswood City Building on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, to receive their grant checks. A total of ten awards were presented totaling $111,845. Funding comes from five different funds managed by PACF, with the majority from the Fund for Ravenswood.

PACF Executive Director, Fred Rader said, “We are excited to award over $100,000 in grants to organizations dedicated to serving Ravenswood and Jackson County. Ravenswood is fortunate to benefit from the philanthropy of generous donors who have established funds aimed at community improvement.”

Spring 2024 grants:

Fund for Ravenswood

  • $10,000 to The City of Ravenswood - BOPARC to purchase sound equipment for concerts and events.
  • $5,000 to Discover the Real West Virginia Foundation, Inc. to create a documentary series titled “West Virginia Makes” to showcase handcrafted and manufactured goods made in the state.
  • $15,000 to Good Shepherd Family Day Care for the purchase and installation of an elevator;
  • $6,250 to the Jackson County Public Library to purchase a microfilm digital scanner to preserve aging microfilm.
  • $36,750 to Jackson County Schools for the ArtCart program at Henry J. Kaiser and Ripley Elementary Schools.
  • $1,500 to Little Sandy CEOS to support the individuals in need in Ravenswood and Jackson County.
  • $5,245 to the Old Hickory Chapter of NSDAR for Story Walk Pedestals in Veterans Park.
  • $5,100 to the Ravenswood High School Band to purchase new marching band uniforms.

PACF’s Anderson/Morgan Advised Fund, Berdie L. DeVaughn Memorial Fund, Dr. Athey and Veronica Lutz Fund, and the Mountaineer Children at Risk Fund

  • $15,000 to Savannah’s Closet for operating support

Mickey M. Welch Advised Fund

  • $12,000 to Vets 4 Vets Jackson County to purchase needed medical equipment for veterans.

The Fund for Ravenswood is a charitable fund of the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation (PACF), a nationally certified community foundation founded in 1963. Jackson County is among the eleven counties in PACF’s regional service area. Created in 2019, The Fund for Ravenswood’s mission is “to work together to make Ravenswood better by supporting programs, projects and initiatives that lead toward the vision of a better future for all residents.”

The Fund for Ravenswood has awarded $161,245 for the 2023-2024 fiscal year. Since its inception, the Fund for Ravenswood has distributed $488,677.

Fund for Ravenswood grants are considered in fall and spring through PACF’s competitive grants process, and off-cycle, if they are time-sensitive or emergency in nature.
