Norman and Judith Smith are proud to announce the establishment of the Judith Cottrill Smith Scholarship, a new scholarship fund designed to support a Parkersburg High School graduating senior or past graduate who plans to attend or is currently enrolled at Glenville State University in Glenville, WV. The scholarship will be awarded annually in perpetuity, providing enduring support to deserving students.
Mrs. Smith, a 1962 graduate of Parkersburg High School and a 1966 graduate of Glenville State University, hopes the scholarship will enable a student to experience the same excellent educational opportunities she enjoyed at both institutions.
Judith Cottrill Smith comes from a family with deep ties to Glenville State University. Her father, Kenneth Cottrill, and her brother, Dr. Phillip Cottrill, are both alumni. Kenneth’s children also attended Parkersburg High School.
After completing her undergraduate studies, Mrs. Smith earned a Master of Education from the University of Virginia and a Master of Guidance/Counseling from the University of South Florida. She dedicated 34 years to the field of education, serving as a teacher, guidance counselor, and county-level guidance support professional. She served in West Virginia, Virginia, and Florida. She retired from the Hillsborough County Florida school system.
Norman Smith, her husband, also dedicated his career to education, retiring from the Hillsborough County school system after 36 years as a teacher and administrator. Together, they have made significant contributions to the field of education and continue to support the next generation of students through this generous scholarship.
