Helen Lois Showalter, 79, of Parkersburg, passed away on March 14, 2024, due to complications of Alzheimer’s.
Lois was born on Aug. 10, 1944, in Parkersburg, WV, to the late Frank Vogel Sr. and Helen Kesterson Vogel.
Full of energy, Lois danced through her childhood and cheered through high school. After graduating in 1962 from Parkersburg Catholic High School, she married her junior high sweetheart John Showalter. Johnny’s service in the Marines took them to California where Lois proudly worked for the Orange County School District. Later, they moved to Webster, Mass., where they excitedly welcomed their two sons.
Upon returning to Parkersburg, Lois was an active member of St. Margaret Mary Church serving on the family life committee. During her career, she also worked at Ross-Willoughby and JAK.
Lois loved swinging on the front porch with her grandchildren, watching 4th of July fireworks from her yard, and hosting Halloween. She enjoyed large family gatherings and had the market cornered with her coleslaw and deviled eggs. She will be greatly missed for her sense of humor and kind heart.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sons Jason Showalter (Parkersburg) and Stephen Showalter (Delaware, OH), sister Mary Anne Auth, brother Frank Daniel Vogel II, granddaughters Samantha Auth & Zoe Showalter, grandsons Gage & Jesse Showalter, great grandson Lane Showalter, honorary grandchildren Elijah & Maria Auth, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins who were dear to her.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Margaret Mary Church on April 6th, 2024, at 11 a.m. with Father J. Stephen Vallelonga as celebrant. Interment at Mt. Carmel will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made to Lois's Legacy Fund, a fund started in her honor to provide fun and life enriching activities for her community friends receiving residential memory care.
