The Wade Hampton McLean Football Award honors the life and legacy of Wade Hampton McLean, a Parkersburg High School alumnus, football player, and community member.
Born in Ohio and raised in Parkersburg, West Virginia, Wade Hampton McLean was a member of the Parkersburg High School Big Reds football team and served as Vice President of the Class of 1941. After graduation, he served in the United States Navy during World War II aboard a destroyer in the Pacific Theater. He later moved to Akron to work at Goodyear. In 1973, he returned to the Parkersburg area.
Established in 2005 through the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation, this memorial scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior from Parkersburg High School who is a member of the football team. Selection is based on personal character and demonstrated leadership.
The Wade Hampton McLean Football Award is a one-time scholarship recognizing a student who reflects the values of leadership, teamwork, and character associated with Wade Hampton McLean.
