The W. Bernard Bice and Karen V. Bice Scholarship Fund honors the memory of Dr. Walter "Bernie" Bice, Jr., MD, and Karen V. Edge Bice, a devoted couple known for their faith, service, and dedication to the community. This scholarship supports students beginning their first year of medical school at West Virginia University who have demonstrated significant academic improvement during their undergraduate studies. It reflects the Bices’ commitment to education, faith, and the healing professions.

Bernie and Karen Bice were deeply rooted in their West Virginia community. Dr. Bice practiced medicine for over 40 years, combining medical knowledge with a strong faith, always believing that “God was the great physician.” He was a dedicated member and former deacon at Grand Central Church of Christ, where he also taught classes. Bernie’s life was marked by his love of woodworking, reading, and gardening.

Karen was a loving homemaker who enjoyed sewing, gardening, and caring for her family. She was active with the Stepping Stones Ladies Auxiliary group for Ohio Valley University and was known for sewing clothing for newborns at Camden Clark Medical Center. Her faith and service extended throughout her community as well.

Together, Bernie and Karen exemplified a life of care, dedication, and faith, making a lasting impact on the lives of their family, friends, and the Vienna community.
