Thomas Warren Roberts

The Thomas Warren Roberts – Creative Writing Fund makes an annual distribution to Belpre High School to award two monetary prizes to outstanding English students.

Thomas was born in 1944. He graduated from Belpre High School. He was a very creative and talented writer who kept many journals. While actively serving in a tank unit in Vietnam, he was killed in the line of duty in 1968 at age 24. Regrettably, this occurred just before he was set to come home and return to Marietta College. Thomas truly enjoyed his experiences with high school English and found his teacher to be a source of inspiration for his writing. Thus, it is with a high regard for the efforts of teachers and with respect for talented young writers that this fund was formed to forever honor Thomas Warren Roberts.

Mrs. Roberts said that the importance of teaching and a good education was always paramount values for her family. She was a retired teacher and former member of the Belpre City School Board. Mr. Warren Roberts was in the lumber business in West Virginia with the Roberts family owning Parkersburg Lumber.
