Sally and Donald McDonie

The Sally J. McDonie Memorial Fund was created by a thoughtful friend to honor the life of Sally Jane McDonie. As a field of interest fund, it provides flexible support to meet the evolving needs and opportunities across the PACF’s service area, with special preference given to Wood County, West Virginia. By addressing local priorities as they arise, this endowed fund ensures that Sally’s legacy of love, faith, and devotion to others continues in perpetuity.

This fund is designed to grant the PACF the flexibility to respond to Wood County’s most pressing community needs and promising initiatives. Whether supporting local nonprofit projects, community development, human services, or educational efforts, the Sally J. McDonie Memorial Fund serves as a permanent community resource strengthening Parkersburg and the surrounding region year after year.

Sally was born on September 30, 1935 in Kaymoor, WV to William and Elizabeth Plott. She was a 1952 graduate of St. Albans High School.  She married the love of her life and her husband of 74 years, Donald McDonie, in 1952, and began raising a family.  A woman of deep Catholic faith, Sally devoted her life to her family and serving others.  She spent many years as a Girl Scout Leader, volunteered for school functions, and cheered at hundreds of ballgames, always supporting her children and their friends.  Affectionately known as "Sassy," her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Sally’s faith was the true center of her life.  An active member of St. Francis Xavier Parish, she served as a lector, Eucharist Minister, and RCIA sponsor, welcoming newcomers into the faith with warmth and genuine care.  Her ministry extended beyond parish walls as she visited the sick and homebound, bringing prayers, comfort, and her signature joy to so many.  An avid reader who loved to travel, play games, and work puzzles, Sally showed everyone around her what it truly meant to live out one's faith every single day.

Following Sally’s passing in 2026, a friend established this fund through the PACF.  The Sally J. McDonie Memorial Fund stands as a lasting tribute to a woman who brought warmth, guidance, and endless love to her community.
