To honor Samuel Byrl Ross for his lifelong support of the Mid-Ohio Valley, his children, Samuel Byrl Ross II and Janis Monroe, established the S. Byrl Ross Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund provides scholarships to graduating seniors of Wood or Ritchie counties who are pursuing a major in music or a music-related field at a post-high school educational institution.

Scholarship recipients are chosen on the basis of financial need, academic achievement, potential, and character.

Samuel Byrl Ross was born in Ritchie County in 1914 to the late Marjorie Marie Adams and Floyd Alfred Ross. He was the founder of S. Byrl Ross Insurance Agency and was active in several civic and social organizations. Mr. Ross was a former President of the Wood County Board of Education, a member of the Board of Directors of SBR Inc., and an Emeritus Director of United National Bank.
