The R. N. Gaggar Family Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Ram Nath (R. N.) Gaggar, who was born in a small village in India in 1903 with limited educational opportunities. He lived a simple life and strived to continuously help the underprivileged members of his community by providing financial assistance and by emphasizing the importance of education. Within his own family, R.N. Gaggar encouraged his younger son, Satish, to pursue higher education in the United States and to continue to support educational opportunities to those needing it the most. R. N. Gaggar passed away in 1983.

Satish and his wife, Mithlesh, settled in the Parkersburg area to raise their family and to continue R. N. Gaggar’s philanthropic passion to support others. Their two children, Amit and Anuj, are both Parkersburg South High School graduates. The family credits this region, their education, and their determination to do good work to their achievements. To say, ‘thank you’ and to support others who seek to pursue education past high school, the Gaggar family created the R. N. Gaggar Family Scholarship Fund.

The scholarship is available to two graduating Parkersburg South High School seniors who are enrolled or plan to enroll in a two-year or four-year college or university. The recipients shall have a cumulative high school grade point average of a least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Recipients will also be selected on financial need with preference to be given to first-generation college students. The fund will make its first award spring of 2022.
