The Megan Nicole Longwell Scholarship provides an annual scholarship to a Parkersburg South High School graduating senior based on financial need, participation in school athletics, and consideration to applicants whose families have experienced extraordinary special circumstances that impact their ability to support college expenses.

The scholarship fund was created by the Longwell family so that Megan would be remembered after losing her life after a courageous battle with cancer. Megan was diagnosed in January 2002 with oesterosarcoma (bone cancer) in her leg. In May of that same year, she lost her leg but she never lost her spirit or her beautiful smile. Megan loved cheerleading and her goal in life was to become a nurse. She lost her battle on April 14, 2003, but not before seeing the lights in Las Vegas, which was her dream.

Megan always thought of others, not herself, even during her illness, and she never complained. She is loved and missed by her family and friends and will always be in their hearts.
