Linda Kay (Barron) Cutright, 76, of Parkersburg, WV, passed away on September 21, 2025, leaving behind a legacy as unforgettable as her punchlines. A lifelong learner and lover of books, Linda spent decades stewarding the library at WVU-Parkersburg, where she was known for her encyclopedic knowledge, sharp wit, and impeccable manicure. She also worked for many years as a switchboard operator at JC Penney and raised three strong and independent daughters on her own.
Whether she was cheering on her grandchildren, offering jokes over a margarita, or convincing herself she could out-bake and out-renovate the contestants on her favorite baking/home improvement shows, Linda approached life with humor, grace, and fierce dedication to her family. She was a second mother to many, a friend to all, and a source of comfort and laughter in even the most difficult times.
The specific purpose of the fund will be determined in consultation with Linda’s family, ensuring that it reflects her values and passions. What is certain is that this fund will continue to support meaningful causes in the Mid-Ohio Valley, just as Linda supported everyone who had the good fortune to know her.
The Linda K. Cutright Generational Impact Endowment will annually support a female, adult, non-traditional student, who resides in the Foundation's West Virginia service area, and who is working to continue her education at a four-year institution, trade school, or certificate program. Preference is to be given to single mothers and individuals who demonstrate financial need. Through this fund, Linda’s legacy of warmth, strength, and sarcastic wisdom will live on for forever reminding us to read the book, take the nap, and never underestimate the power of a perfectly timed terrible joke.
