Longtime Wood County residents Randy and Teresa Law appreciate the value of education and recently established the Law Family Scholarship with the Parkersburg Area Community (PACF). Inspired by the relationships created by their family in this community over many years, and their desire to honor their sons’ careers and military experiences, the Laws’ scholarship fund will forever provide financial support to individuals wishing to pursue post-secondary education.
The scholarship fund made its first award in May of 2022. The scholarship is available for residents of Wood and Wirt counties who have completed at least two full years of post-secondary education. Preference is to be given to students with military experience (full-time or part-time), to students who have participated in a college ROTC program, and/or to students who have worked or volunteered in the areas of medicine or public safety. Recipients must be pursuing a certification or be majoring in:
- Medicine (career examples include all levels of nursing, nurse practitioner, emergency medical technician (EMT), paramedic, pharmacist, physical therapist, physician’s assistant, chiropractor, dentist, medical doctor, or doctor of osteopathy);
- Public safety management (career examples include but are not limited to firefighter, fire safety personnel, police officer, public information officer, or homeland security).
“Both of our sons, TJ and Adam, are career members of the U.S. military,” said Randy Law. “The military has supported and helped them succeed to become the leaders they are today. We want to honor their hard work and to support others who may be pursuing the same career paths.”
Randy Law retired from WesBanco in 2012 where he was Senior Vice President of Trust and Investment Services. Teresa Law is retired from Parkersburg High School where she taught French and was chairperson of the World Languages Department. Nowadays, the Laws reside at Alpine Lake Resort in Terra Alta, WV, and travel frequently to visit their sons and their families.
“We want to show our appreciation for how blessed we are to have lived and worked in Parkersburg,” said Randy Law. “We want to pay it forward.”
