Katherine Ann Sutton Ash was born in 1940 in Avon to George and Pauline Nicholson Sutton. She attended Jarvisville Grade School and Bristol High School. In 1958, she married Rev. Stanley W. Ash. Katherine was affiliated with many Baptist churches including Fairview, Beckley, Barnes Memorial, Rube Ave Kansas City, Grantsville and New Lexington. She had worked for Alkire Tire in Clarksburg and the Beckley Register newspaper.

Mrs. Ash passed away in 2004, and the KASA Memorial Scholarship was established with the Doddridge County Community Foundation affiliate in 2005 to honor her memory. Katherine considered her family to be the most important part of her life, and she loved helping children. This scholarship will honor her memory by supporting the higher educational goals of graduating seniors from Doddridge County High School. The scholarship supports a graduating high school senior (or graduate) of Doddridge County High School, with preference to well-rounded, hard working individuals with financial need who are not already receiving substantial scholarship aid from other sources and to a student admitted to attend a public college in WV.
