The Jesse Michael Cayton Memorial Scholarship was established in 2003 with the Foundation's Doddridge County Community Foundation affiliate in memory of Jesse Michael Cayton. This scholarship provides support for a graduating senior from Doddridge County High School who has been a lifelong resident of Doddridge County. The recipient must have participated in a school or non-school sports activity and must be admitted to attend an accredited post high school institution. Preference shall be given to applicants with financial need and with a minimum GPA of 2.5. The first Jesse Michael Cayton Memorial Scholarship was awarded in 2009, the class with which Jesse would have graduated.

Jesse was tragically killed in an automobile accident in September of 2002, an accident which also took the life of his uncle and seriously injured Jesse's brother.
Jesse lived in the Sedalia Community and was a Doddridge County Middle School student at the time of his death. Since family, sports and school were
important parts of Jesse's life, his parents thought a scholarship benefiting local students would provide a lasting memorial to Jesse.
