The Harrisville Town Council passed a resolution in 2011 to create a wonderful gift for the community - an endowed fund that would provide lasting support for the Harrisville Town Park. The Harrisville Town Park Endowment - Mildred Prather Memorial Fund was made possible through a gift entrusted to the City of Harrisville from the estate of Mildred Prather. Mrs. Prather was a long-time community leader and Park supporter who understood the importance of providing long-term support for her community. She and her husband, Dr. Wade Prather, were lifetime residents of Ritchie County. Dr. Prather started his dental practice in Harrisville and Mrs. Prather was the receptionist, always greeting guests with a smile.

"The City of Harrisville is extremely thankful for Mrs. Prather's generous gift," said Mayor Alan Haught. "The Town Council is grateful to have a permanent endowment to support the Town Park. Mrs. Prather's family is happy to know that this fund will provide annual support for maintenance and equipment for the Park in her memory. The current and future citizens of our community will benefit from the Park's recreational and social opportunities. I'm proud of the Town Council's thoughtful support of this new community fund. This is a wonderful example of how local residents can partner with the city and community foundation to make sure that our town continues to become more socially vibrant and self reliant."
