The Elizabeth Simmons Scholarship Fund honors Mrs. Simmons, a longtime Williamstown resident. Mrs. Simmons was born on September 1, 1918 in Friendly, West Virginia, and later moved to the Williamstown area and graduated from Williamstown High School and Marietta Business College.

Mrs. Simmons worked at Williamstown National Bank and Marietta Savings and Loan. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Williamstown, Williamstown Eastern Star 58, and the Williamstown Senior Citizens. She married James Simmons on September 15, 1984.

According to Mr. Simmons' good friend Pat Love, Mrs. Simmons was a very special lady who was kind, generous, humble, and always made everyone smile. She was a very positive and honest person and was very down to earth. Mrs. Simmons believe that a good education was important, but that it was just as important to be honest and treat others with fairness and respect and this is how she led her life.

The Elizabeth Simmons Scholarship Fund provides an annual scholarship award to a Williamstown High School graduating senior majoring in a health care field, with preference to students pursuing nursing degrees. Recipients of the scholarship are selected on the basis of academic achievement, interest in the health care field, involvement in school and community activities, and financial need.
