Ed Stephenson's special love and support for animals during his lifetime will be continued through the Ed Stephenson Fund for Animals, created by Stephenson's friends and family, led by longtime friends Brenda Brum and Kevin Whitby. The fund provides support for animal welfare needs in Wood County, West Virginia, and Washington County, Ohio.

Born in Levittown, New York, in 1951, Ed found his way to West Virginia via Salem College and began teaching in schools in Doddridge and Wirt Counties. He then became a Uniserv consultant with the West Virginia Education Association and later, after retirement, began working in a similar capacity with the Ohio Education Association. Ed passed away in February 2013.

"Ed loved boating, travel, food, and fun," said Brenda. "He had a special love and affection for animals, and he was a generous friend. Ed wanted to have an ongoing way to support animals. With a fund through the Community Foundation, we can honor Ed's wishes, and, as Ed's friends, it provides us with an ongoing cause to support in his memory."
