Described by many as “givers” and “of great character,” Sharon and Daniel Wharton, both natives of Parkersburg, were dedicated to philanthropy and their community. During their lifetimes they cared deeply for the Parkersburg region and its citizens, doing all in their power to help others.

Mr. Wharton, who passed away in January 2017, was the President and owner of Wharton Auto Group and a longtime dedicated member of the Foundation’s Board of Directors. Mrs. Wharton was a teacher in the Wood County School system and was an active supporter of many area organizations before she passed away in September 2018. Their dedication to philanthropy and community continues today through the Daniel B. and Sharon E. Wharton Advised Fund and the Dan and Sharon Wharton Parkersburg Art Center Fund.

In their estate plans, Mrs. and Mr. Wharton left gifts to build these two charitable funds with the PACF that will forever support the causes they were most passionate about helping. These dedicated funds have aided the work of various organizations working to promote arts and culture, education, and health and wellness in the region. They are survived by two sons, Daniel Barrett Wharton, who joined his father in the family business, and Wood County Circuit Judge Jason Andrew Wharton, who continue to honor their parents’ legacy and support their Funds, serving as successor advisers to the Donor Advised Fund.

We are grateful for citizens like Mrs. and Mr. Wharton. Their incredible generosity leaves a legacy that will make a difference for generations to come.
