Alex was born in Parkersburg in 1972. He attended Belpre City Schools where he excelled academically and in sports. He was a member of the National Honor Society and lettered in football and track.

Alex attended The Ohio State University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering. He also earned a master's degree in materials science from Wright State University.

Alex was a manufacturing engineer and had several positions in the auto manufacturing, construction equipment manufacturing and laboratory equipment manufacturing industries. He loved to solve problems and find better ways to make things. He was a hands on type of person who took engineering theories and applied them to real world problems.

The Alex J. Craig Memorial Scholarship is designed to provide financial aid to individuals who are residents of the City of Belpre or Belpre Township in Ohio who have an interest in pursuing a major in engineering or training in an industrial or construction trade.
